WMMT & Appalshop Commemorate the Buffalo Creek Disaster
Appalshop will host a community film screening of its award-winning films “The Buffalo Creek Flood: An Act of Man” and “Buffalo Creek Revisited” in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Buffalo Creek Disaster, a coal waste flood that killed 125 people in Logan County, WV on February 26, 1972. The screening will take place at the Appalshop Theatre on Tuesday, February 28th at 7 PM. After the films, there will be a Q & A session with director Mimi Pickering. The event is free and open to the public; we’d love to have you with us! To view clips from both films in advance of the screening, check out Appalshop’s Buffalo Creek Page.
On the following day, Wednesday, February 29th, WMMT’s Mountain Talk will then host an on-air discussion and commemoration of the Buffalo Creek Disaster with host Mimi Pickering, special guest Jack Spadaro, and more. The program will air from 6-7 p.m. Your calls, as always, are both welcomed and encouraged.Tags:
