Mtn. Talk: Mountains of Music Homecoming

Mtn. Talk: Mountains of Music Homecoming

In this episode we’re learning about the Mountains of Music Homecoming festival held throughout Southwest Virginia each summer.  Ted Olson, a music historian at East Tennessee State University and (the MC of many past Mountains of Music concerts), sat down in the studio with WMMT Public Affairs Director Rachel Garringer and WMMT programmer Rich Kirby to talk about the history of the program, and to highlight this summer’s excellent schedule.

Along the way we hear tunes recorded live at past Mtns. of Music concerts:   “Old Cow Crossing the Road” by the Reed Island Rounders.  Along the way we heard “Dear Sister” by the Clair Lynch Band, “Blue Night” by Ricky Skaggs and KY Thunder, “All The Things You Do” by Blue Highway, and “Moonshiner” by the Black Twig Pickers.

Visit the Mountains of Music Homecoming Festival online, and head out to one of their live shows June 8-16, 2018 across Southwestern Virginia.
