Mtn. Talk: A Philosophy of Care with Sister Bernie Kenny & Tauna Gulley

In this episode we hear from Sister Bernie Kenny & Nurse Tauna Gulley about the book they co-wrote.  It’s called Better for Being With You: A Philosophy of Care and  it describes the life events of sister Bernie Kenny – who has worked as a nurse in Ireland, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Oakland, California before settling in Clinchco, Virginia forty years ago. She helped establish a mobile health unit & has been a tireless advocate for the advancement of healthcare delivery in rural Appalachia. Sister Bernie & Tauna joined WMMT’s Rachel Garringer in the studio to talk more about the book, their work, and the state of rural healthcare.

Music on this episode features Ginny Hawker & Kay Justice with the tune “Come All You Tenderhearted” off of their album by the same name, which was released by Appalshop’s own, JuneAppal Recordings in 1993. This episode was produced & hosted by Rachel Garringer.
