Cloudsplitter 100 — Description of Event

The inaugural Cloudsplitter 100 trail race will take place on the beautiful Pine Mountain Scenic Trail during the weekend of October 4-5, 2014.  The Pine Mountain Scenic Trail is positioned at the western edge of the Appalachian Mountains, and currently has 60 miles of pristine hiking paths blazed along a forested corridor which stretches from Breaks Interstate Park to near Whitesburg, Kentucky.  The mountain is rugged and nearly roadless, surrounded by sandstone cliffs, gorgeous rhododendron thickets and enormous, prehistoric land slides with huge boulders.  Pine Mountain offers gorgeous views of Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee, and its expanse of trail remains a significant unprotected wilderness area.  Approximately 150 or more runners from Eastern Kentucky and elsewhere in the U.S. are expected to register for one of four distances at the Cloudsplitter 100 trail race – 100 miles, 100 kilometers (62.2 miles), 50 kilometers (31.1 miles) or 25 kilometers (15.5 miles).  All distances are out and back courses.  The 100 mile runners will have a time limit of 40 hours to finish the race.  Race finishers of all distances will be awarded a custom made medal for their achievement.

Cloudspliter 2016 was outstanding race. Very well organized and the participants were great. Weather was perfect which made for several fast runs. Thanks to all to help put this race on and all the runners. Looking forward to next year. Thanks again!
