In this edition of WMMT’s biweekly news program on life in central Appalachia, we’ll hear about a new report on the potential for renewable energy in Kentucky. We’ll also hear selections from the 1991 Appalshop film Morgan Sexton: Banjo Player from Bull Creek, as well as a story from Jackie Helton, a banjo player from Wolfe County, Kentucky who was recently in Letcher County for the 11th annual Cowan Creek Mountain Music School. We begin the program with excerpts from U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller’s recent speech on the Senate floor, which he gave during hearings on the Inhofe resolution, a bill which would have removed new EPA regulations on coal-fired power plants’ emissions of mercury and other toxic forms of pollution.

Thanks for the shout out. I listen to ya’ll when i’m up in Pikeville visiting family. I’m back in Louisiana now but miss Kentucky and memories of my childhood there.
